It’s no secret that students suffered a lot when the pandemic disrupted their learning. The most recent National Assessment of Educational Progress results show the biggest drop in math performance in 4th and 8th grades since the testing program began in 1990, and a significant decline in reading skills for both grades.

Schools are doing what they can to help kids catch up on the unfinished learning that happened during the pandemic, but some educators believe after-school programs should help as well.

Principals are more than twice as likely as after-school program personnel to say the primary focus of after-school programs for elementary, middle, and high school students should be providing academic support, according to survey data from the Education Week Research Center.

What should a quality after-school program look like? Should all after-school programs put a higher priority on academic skill-building? Join us for a discussion with an after-school learning expert and a principal to talk about how after-school programs and schools can work together to better meet the needs of today’s students.
